COUTA(King Mackerel)-Scomberomorus commerson

Attains 220cm, app. 50kg.......This chap was caught by fluke in 6.5m of water. Target was natal snoek(queen mackerel), which we were getting. When we slowed down to boat yet another snoek, the remaining lures in the water sank to the bottom.....It was then that I noticed a small tug on the tip, acting quickly, gave the fish free spool for 50plus meters before tightning up and setting the hook..Result,21kg cuta,on coloured artificial squid.....Bonus!!!!

RED STEENBRAS(Copper Steenbras)-petrus rupestris

25kg copper, caught off St lucia on bottom rig in 90m of water... The Copper is natorius for the fight that he puts out, although this is of a mediocre size, be warned it feels like your pulling the plug out of the ocean........

LOGGERHEAD TURTLE-caretta caretta

This unfortunate soul was snagged off a reef by accident, at first we thought Thokosane had pulled the plug and we would all be walking home.. As it surfaced to alls surprise the loggerhead came loose and spent a lazy 5mins hanging next to the boat, presumably catching its breath before returning to the depths from whence it was so rudely plucked..

WOW!!!

This time of the year we are very fortunate to have the migration of the Humback whales, for now they head north to warmer waters.... There they will calf and once the calves are ready, the return trip to the south begins. Throughout this whole round trip the mothers will not feed much and if that isnt to much, the calves need to be nursed.
