EMPEROR SNAPPER-lutjanus sebae

The older brother of this 2.5kg Emperor Snapper is said to grow to a length of 80cm and a weight of 25+kg.
The juvenile is silvery white with three broad, reddish bands.

BRONZE BREAM(BRUIN HOTTENTOT)-pachymetopon grande

This fish is said to only grow a cm per year.....
So Folks put the little ones back!!!
J.L.B. Smith(SFSA), records 14 different common names for this fish..
Attains 65cm, and found in shallow rocky area's.

First night, pushing tide, 9pm.... The s@43 hit the fan, by 12pm 5 raggies had been overpowered by local fishing crew...... Pic's of local fisherman 'Deon Van Jaarsveld' with his trophy, first raggie of a estimated 120kg, male.......

GREY BARENOSE-gymnocranius griseus

The Grey barenose is said to attain 80cm in length and rarely found in our waters at depths up to 80m. This juvenile was caught in 38m of water and will lose its bands across its body as it matures into adulthood.

REDBARRED ROCKCOD(Blacktip Grouper)-epinephelus fasciatus

This little critter, not growing larger than 30cm can be found perched
in crevices of rock. They lie in wait of unsuspecting victoms, then in a
swift gulp swallow their prey whole. A very common specy found on the
north coast, and often caught by deep sea anglers. This one was caught
on a piece of chokka in 47m of water. This particular redbarred rockcod
was displaying a brilliant orange colouration with hints of yellow on
the fin tips....

RAGGIE(Spotted Ragged-Tooth Shark)-eugomphodus taurus

This Raggie is one of many caught over the past week. The biggest of was estimated to be 190kg. Caught at the Umfolozi river mouth where there has been alot of activity, various species of bait fish as well as game fish. A few days ago the snoek were been caught by shore anglers on shad spoons in the gully on the northern bank of the Umfolozi, which caused alot of excitement...
